Chapter 15: 1 King Chapter 7: The World of Biblical Archaeology\u2014Excavations Reveal the Reality of Solomon’s Temple<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bible stories often feel like events from a faraway past. But through the study of archaeology<\/strong>, those times can feel much closer to us. Archaeology is the science of digging up old buildings, tools, pottery, and bones to learn about how people lived, what they believed, and how their societies worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I am not a professional archaeologist, but I had a special chance to join the seventh excavation at Lachish, led by Hebrew University. I lived and worked with researchers from all over the world, pastors who wanted to learn more about the Bible, and students and ordinary people interested in archaeology. It was a fun and eye-opening experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bible says that great palaces and temples were built long ago. But we have not found these ruins yet. This is because the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is a very important religious and political place, so archaeologists cannot dig freely there. Because of this, they collect indirect evidence<\/strong> to slowly reveal the real world of the Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the excavation, Professor Garfinkel taught us many things about his work at Khirbet Qeiyafa (the Valley of Elah). There, a stone model of a temple<\/strong> was found. Its design is very similar to the entrances and decorations described in the Bible for palaces and temples. From these temple models and ruins, we learn that ancient temple and palace entrances were not just simple doors. The entrances had many frames around them, with steps and levels (called multiple frames<\/strong>). This showed that the place was special and holy. In a small part of the Temple Mount, old olive seeds and pieces of pottery were found. This proves that people really lived and worked there long ago. We cannot say, \u201cThis is Solomon\u2019s palace!\u201d yet, but step by step, the reality of the Bible\u2019s world is becoming clearer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Archaeology helps Bible stories stand out as real history. There are still many things waiting to be found at excavation sites.
