People lived among worshipers of Baal, the storm god, Asherah, the goddess of fertility, and El, the high god. Their language, festivals, and values were deeply connected to these cultures.
Deuteronomy 33:2 suggests Yahweh came from the south\u2014Seir, Paran, Teman\u2014regions of Edom and Midian. At first, Yahweh was honored as a warrior god. Later, Israel accepted Him as their God.
Early Israelite faith was not strict monotheism. It was monolatry<\/strong>\u2014worshiping one God while not denying others.
Over time, Yahweh took on El\u2019s qualities and became Creator, Covenant Maker, and Supreme God. Slowly, faith moved toward \u201cone God.\u201d This was not random evolution but a process shaped by culture and tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Elijah and Elisha stood against Baal and Asherah, saying, \u201cThe Lord is God!\u201d This was not just a religious fight. It was a battle to keep Israel\u2019s identity and faith pure.
Prophets called people back to fellowship with God when culture pulled them away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Money? Health? Technology? These matter, but they are not ultimate.
Even Christians should think: Are we mixing faith with other beliefs?
Do we trust God but also check horoscopes, draw omikuji, or move furniture for feng shui?
Who do we truly rely on? The Bible asks us today:
