The center of b\u0101<\/em>\u1e6da<\/em>\u1e25<\/em> is \u201cpeace and safety in the heart.\u201d Trust<\/em> focuses on relationship, rely<\/em> on practical help, but neither shows the feeling of calm. NIV uses confidence<\/em> to show this part. Other translations show other sides.
Hebrew also changes meaning with prepositions: \u05d1\u05b0\u05bc = \u201cin,\u201d \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc = \u201con,\u201d \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc = \u201ctoward.\u201d For example, \u201ctrust in the Lord\u201d or \u201clean on Egypt.\u201d In verse 19 Rabshakeh asks about confidence, and in verse 21 he says, \u201cYou lean on Egypt.\u201d
The word also appears in forms like Hiphil (\u201cmake trust\u201d) and passive (\u201cbe safe\u201d). So it means not only \u201cdepend\u201d but also \u201crest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u05e7\u05b8\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 (q\u0101v\u0101h)<\/strong> means \u201cwait with hope,\u201d from a root meaning \u201ctwist a cord,\u201d showing tension while waiting (Isaiah 40:31).
b\u0101<\/em>\u1e6da<\/em>\u1e25<\/em> is different: it means \u201csure peace based on the character of the Lord.\u201d Psalms say, \u201cI trust in the Lord and I am not afraid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a pandemic, we rely<\/em> on health systems, but we also need trust<\/em>\u2014in good information, in people, and in God. In economic trouble, we rely<\/em> on money plans, but real security comes from relationships and faith. In the AI age, we rely<\/em> on technology, but meaning and values need trust<\/em>.
